Interoperability Guide
How HealthOS Ghana structures, secures, and exchanges health data with partner systems and national health infrastructure.
Standards we support
HealthOS Ghana models its clinical domain around HL7 FHIR R4 resource semantics (Patient, Practitioner, Encounter, Observation, MedicationRequest, DiagnosticReport, ServiceRequest, and CareTeam). Our internal Prisma data model preserves the same relationships so records can be mapped to FHIR resources for exchange with the Ghana Health Service, NHIA, and accredited partner facilities.
API access
All programmatic access to HealthOS Ghana is versioned under /v1 and protected with JWT bearer tokens issued through our OAuth-style login flow. Partner integrations are granted scoped, role-based access — for example, a laboratory information system only receives access to lab order and result endpoints for the facilities it serves.
Data exchange patterns
Supported exchange patterns include real-time REST calls for clinical workflows (appointments, lab orders, prescriptions, referrals), asynchronous event delivery for downstream systems via our Kafka-backed event bus, and secure WhatsApp Business messaging for patient-facing notifications and appointment reminders.
Referral and care coordination
Referral and follow-up records carry a stable identifier and lifecycle state (SENT, SCHEDULED, ATTENDED, COMPLETED) so receiving facilities can track continuity of care across organizational boundaries, consistent with FHIR ServiceRequest and Task resource patterns.
Requesting integration access
Health facilities, laboratories, pharmacies, and government health information systems seeking API or data-exchange access should contact our integration team through the Contact Us page with details of the intended use case, expected data volume, and security point of contact.
